Navi Mumbai Metro is an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) with 1 operational line and several proposed lines in Navi Mumbai (Belapur, Kharghar, Taloja), Maharashtra by City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
11.1 km Navi Mumbai Metro was opened on November 17, 2023 much beyond its original deadline of December 2015. In June 2024, Konkan Railway took over its operations and maintenance (O&M).
Construction work on Navi Mumbai Metro’s Line-1 connecting CBD Belapur to Pendhar via 11 stations started in November 2011. This 12 year long project was riddled by legal hurdles, major contractor issues, poor project management by CIDCO and an apathetic state government crossing party lines.
Although the Maharashtra government has released a 106.40 km master plan comprising of 6 lines, it is unlikely that it will be followed. New metro lines are expected to be announced in the coming years influenced by the construction of the Navi Mumbai Airport in Palvel – Ulwe.
In June 2019, Navi Mumbai’s City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) had given an in-principle approval to entrust DMRC with implementing the city’s Line-2 and Line-3 after which DMRC began locally recruiting in October for various posts.

Navi Mumbai Metro Fares (Ticket Prices)
Navi Mumbai Metro’s fare structure, prices and rules were announced on November 16, 2023. Fares are dependent the distance traveled:
- Rs. 10 for 0 to 2 KM
- Rs. 15 for 2 to 4 KM
- Rs. 20 for 4 to 6 KM
- Rs. 25 for 6 to 8 KM
- Rs. 30 for 8 to 10 KM
- Rs. 40 for beyond 10 KM
